Planning new kitchen worktops? My Kitchen Worktop by MKW Surfaces guides you through material selection, quotation, templating, fabrication and installation. Here is what happens at each stage and how to prepare for a smooth fitting.

Start with your kitchen plan

To help us prepare your quotation, send your kitchen plan or a sketch with approximate dimensions, your project postcode and your preferred material. Tell us about islands, splashbacks, upstands, sink and hob cut-outs, edge details and any other features you would like included.

If you are still choosing a surface, explore our worktop materials or arrange an appointment at our Hayes showroom. We can discuss colours, finishes and the practical requirements of your kitchen.

What your worktop quotation covers

Your detailed quotation sets out the agreed material and the templating, fabrication and installation services included in your project. Check the specification, cut-outs, edge details, VAT and any additional work with our team before confirming your order. Changes to the layout or specification may affect the price and schedule.

Preparing your kitchen for templating

Accurate measurements depend on a kitchen that is ready. Before your templating visit, confirm the following with our team:

• Your kitchen units and island are fully fitted, level and securely fixed in their final positions.
• Your sink, hob, taps and any other items affecting cut-outs have been agreed. Ask which items or manufacturer templates need to be available on site.
• Any existing worktop removal and preparation have been discussed in advance.
• Our templater has clear, safe access to the kitchen. Let us know about stairs, parking restrictions and access limitations.
• Your final layout, edges, upstands and splashbacks are ready to be confirmed.

Once templating is complete, discuss any proposed kitchen changes with us before work continues, as they may require new measurements.

How long does fabrication and installation take?

Our typical lead time is 7–10 working days from templating to installation, subject to material availability and project requirements. This is not the time from your first enquiry or quotation. Our team will confirm the installation schedule for your particular order.

Specialist fabrication, material sourcing, complex layouts and site readiness can affect timings. Tell us your preferred completion date early so we can discuss a realistic programme.

On installation day

Our experienced fitters install your worktops and complete the agreed finishing details. Keep the access route clear and confirm any site arrangements with us before the visit. Ask our team about sink, hob, plumbing and electrical connections so you can arrange any separate trades required.

We will advise you on the next steps for your chosen surface. Follow the material manufacturer’s care instructions, and ask about any waiting period before using newly fitted areas.
