The facade cladding is a lining placed in the exterior of walls outside buildings. It gives the finishing look that will complete its exterior look.
However, even if the aesthetic aspect is important, it is not the only aim of facade cladding. Its main purpose is preserving and extending the life both of those walls and of the whole building. Also, it can help improve insulation and, therefore, enhance energy efficiency.
Both aspects, aesthetic and function, should be taken into account when choosing the cladding material for our home.
The range of materials that can be used for cladding is very wide, divided into two main categories: natural stone facade or engineered stone facade.
Among the natural stones, the most frequent choices are marble and granite. Nevertheless, there are other great natural options such as quartzite or basalt.
An alternative to natural stones would be engineered stones that showcase the beauty and aesthetic of marble and granite, but are thin, lightweight, affordable and yet resist extremity. These neither crack easily nor fade. Among those, we can find materials such as Dekton or Neolith.
If you are thinking about using a natural stone for your facade cladding, marble and granite are the most obvious choices for very good reasons.
On the one hand, marble is artistic and produces an effect of high-quality when applied to the exterior decoration.
On the other hand, granite, with its crystallized granulated base and intense variation in tones, introduces diversity to any design. Unlike marble, granite is a non-porous stone, which means it does not allow water infiltration during freezing winter months, neither does it crack during extreme summers. Thus, the stone stays eternally beautiful, making it a cost-effective option while decorating an exterior.
Facade cladding is a system that leaves a cavity between the cladding and the wall insulation, thus eliminating thermal bridges and condensation problems. This achieves excellent thermal performance and reduces humidity. For this reason, it is considered the most effective system for solving the insulation of buildings and is widely accepted by architects, builders and contractors.
